We held our Local Squadron Effective Speaking Competition along with 205 Collishaw Squadron on Monday night. It was a wonderful evening where our four participating cadets (Greyson Vink, Max Moore, Julius Mann, and Eric Kittmer) brought their A-game. They put together thoughtful speeches on various topics and put into action all the lessons learned during their Effective Speaking Training with Martin DeBarros.
Wondering what these competitions entail?
Well, the cadets choose a topic from a list provided by The Air Cadet League of Canada. They then research, write, practise reciting a speech 5-6 minutes in length. No longer. No shorter.
They are then given an impromptu speech topic and three minutes to prepare a two-minute speech. I don’t know about you, but I’m sweating just thinking about it!
All the speeches are judged by impartial judges and the scores tallied.
After last night’s tally, FSgt. Max Moore will be moving onto the Wing Competition on April 3, 2021. I will share the zoom link once I have it so we can all log in and cheer him on!
